Wildtrackers is a team of independent consultants, who stage various vehicle projects in remote locations around the world.

Driver Training

Wildtrackers can improve your off-road skills – It’s Official! Wildtrackers are now an independent training and assessment centre (yes, you can fail) for the National Proficiency Test Council certificate. The NPTC (part of the City and Guilds group) qualification is the only QCA (The Quality Curriculum Authority) accredited 4WD qualification. Wildtrackers have training bases in England, Wales and Scotland in addition to advanced training facilities in many other countries throughout the world.

Now we can help you, your organisation or your company to achieve a foundation on which to build your own off-road skills.

Being part of the Wildtrackers team is not just about visiting exotic parts of the globe and strutting your stuff without a care – it’s about hard work, an eye for safety and an affinity with your machine and your surroundings.

In short, a lifetime of work and preparation has put the Wildtrackers team members where they are today. Now they can help you, your organisation or your company to achieve a foundation on which to build your own off-road skills – and that’s official. The National Proficiency Test Council certificate is a recognised qualification (a relative of the City & Guilds series) and Wildtrackers are in charge of training and independent assessment (yes, you can fail) for the NPTC.

Wildtrackers have training bases in England, Wales and Scotland, and their NPTC assessment team includes Andy Dacey (a national verifier who can assess assessors), Bob Ives, Duncan Barbour and Andrew Lewis.

What does the NPTC involve?

The training can be broken down into four units:

  • Preparation and maintenance of vehicle.
  • Off-road driving (route selection, driving on side slopes, ascents and descents, failed hill climb recovery, crossing bridges, ditches and water crossings).
  • Driving with a trailer.
  • Vehicle-mounted winching.

However, courses can be tailored to individual requirements, which the Wildtrackers team are more than happy to discusss with you. Vehicles used at the moment include Land Rovers, Jeeps, Landcrusiers, Hummers, Pinzgauers, and various 4WD pick-ups.

The Health & Safety Executive under PUWER 98, says that all people using any machinery in a working environment should be adequately trained. The NPTC Certificate of Competence proves through independent assessment that this has been achieved.

Who has been seeking NPTC qualifications?

Wildtrackers have been training military units, employees of utilities companies, 4X4 dealers and dealer trainers, off-road magazine journalists.
